Information for PhD candidates

Information for Doctoral Student

Doctoral students and external doctoral candidates applying for the award of a doctoral degree under the new regulations are required to present a certificate or diploma of graduation confirming their proficiency in a foreign language at a level of B2 or above (§ 4 section 1 point 2 of Annex no. 1 to the Resolution).  They are not required to undergo a further language examination but may take a University of Warsaw Language Certificate to obtain the necessary certificate confirming their language proficiency.  Pursuant to § 17 sec. 1 and § 18 sec. 1 point 2 of Annex 1 to Resolution 481 of the Senate of the University of Warsaw, the Examination Committee appointed by the Scientific Council to conduct the examination in an academic discipline is responsible for verifying (on the basis of the documentation provided, i.e., diploma or certificate of graduation) that the candidate meets the language requirement. Language exams

  • All doctoral students are entitled to 2 free examination tokens
  • All candidates must take both parts of the exam, i.e., the written and oral exams
  • Doctoral students who pass a UW Language Certificate Examination will be awarded 2 ECTS points
  • Applications for examination tokens should be sent by email to the Coordinator for the Teaching of Foreign Languages at (jezyki.koordynator@uw.edu.pl)
