Placement tests

Placement Tests

I. Students who want to register for the first time for a language course in English, French, Spanish, German, Russian or Italian at B1 level or above, must first take an online placement test in the given language.

The purpose of the test is to ensure that students select from the courses offered by the University one that is of appropriate difficulty for their proficiency level.

Placement tests can be taken at the following times:

08.01.2024-25.02.2024

The placement test should be taken at least two days before registering for a course.

II. The placement tests are administered by the Digital Competence Centre.  They are posted on the Kampus platform (http://kampus.come.uw.edu.pl) prior to and during each subsequent registration period for language courses.  To access the tests, students need to log in using their PESEL number as their username and their password as generated by the Dean’s Office (or the IRK system for internet registration) during the university admission’s process.

AFTER COMPLETING THE TEST, STUDENTS SHOULD COMPARE THEIR SCORE WITH THE TABLE OF TEST BANDS AND COURSE LEVEL SUGGESIONS

Before starting to register for a course, students must check whether their placement test score has been saved on the system. Then they should log onto the token registration webpage and choose the group in which they would like to enrol.

III. Students who want to enrol for language courses other than English, French, Spanish, German, Russian or Italian DO NOT need to take a placement test.

IV. Students must login using their PESEL number, clicking on the tab ‘LOGIN FOR STUDENTS’

V. Students who log onto the Kampus platform for the first time, where the placement test are to be found (under the tab – “Modify your profile”), should fill in the following fields:

  • first and last name
  • email address
  • description (here the student can add something from themselves)
  • consent for the processing of personal details

VI. The placement test is made up of the following two parts: Part 1 – Understanding a written text (Questions 1-10); Part 2 – Use of Language, i.e., ability to react in everyday situations, knowledge of grammar, vocabulary (Questions 11-70).

  • each question is worth 1 point, thus the maximum test score is 70 points
  • in each part the questions are arranged according to an increasing level of difficulty
  • the test can be taken only once
  • you cannot go back to already completed tasks
  • you have 60 minutes to complete the test
  • the test has to be completed in a single session
  • after answering the last question, you should check your answers, save the test and finish
  • once the test is finished, the system will generate your score
  • the test will be reliable only if students work independently and do not use any reference materials such as dictionaries
  • after 60 minutes the test switches off automatically

VII. The test score is sent to the language course registration system during data migration. Students are advised to check the times of data migration given on the first page of the test.  Cancelling one’s language course registration is only possible once the placement test score has reached the registration system.

Technical support in case of problems with access to the placement tests is offered at: pomoc-ckc@uw.edu.pl
